Art a focus for tourism engagement

Lanescape is set to continue providing entertainment and joy to our community into the future with Goondiwindi Regional Council (GRC) pleased to announce its support of the community group and annual festival.

Lanescape Inc., a community arts group, has been successful in securing a guaranteed, annual community funding grant after approaching Council with the aim of simplifying the funding application process.

They obtained funding under Council’s Community Grants program and will receive $12,000 annually towards art installations.

Landscape’s future, as outlined in the five-year Masterplan Council approved in 2022, is constantly expanding and evolving based on feedback received from the local community, artists and council.

Councillor Phil O’Shea who holds the portfolio for Health, Ageing, Arts and Culture said Lanescape’s public works play a vital role in promoting tourism, fostering community engagement, and advancing arts and culture throughout the region.

“Since its inauguration, Lanescape has focussed on creating public artwork throughout the region of Goondiwindi with the intention of creating an art trail,” said Cr O’Shea.

“It is also expected that an event will happen annually, with the next Lanescape festival scheduled on Friday 13 October this year, and $2,000 is allocated to the delivery of the event.”

This decision reflects Council’s support and recognition that art and cultural activities significantly contribute to the community’s way of life, social well-being and foster an engagement with the arts consistent with other events across the region, such as the Talwood Festival of Small Halls, Texas Festival of Small Halls, Goondiwindi State High School – Expressive Arts Week and the Texas Country Music Festival.

“This decision delivers certainty of funding year after year and also cuts back on red tape,” Cr O’Shea said.
